Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has expressed his determination to continue his goal-scoring spree as Kenya prepares to face Burundi and Ivory Coast in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The matches will be hosted in Malawi, a venue chosen for these crucial qualifiers.
Olunga has been in scintillating form, netting seven goals in his last three international caps. His recent performances include a brace in the 5-0 demolition of Seychelles, another two goals against Malawi in March, and a hat-trick against Zimbabwe, which secured the trophy for Kenya.

Maina, who was part of the Kenya U-18 side that reached the finals of the CECAFA U-18 Championships last December, has revealed his plans after enjoying a more prominent role at Ulinzi Stars recently.
These achievements have eased the pressure on Olunga, who had faced criticism from Kenyan fans for his earlier struggles in front of goal.
Speaking to the media on Friday at the Police Sacco Stadium before the team’s departure to Malawi, Olunga emphasized his commitment to the national team and his ambition to score more goals.
“As a striker, you always want to be there for the team. I always want to score, but in football, you are only as good as your last tournament,” Olunga stated.
“The four nations tournaments are done and dusted. Now it is a new game. Two games back to back. I still want to continue scoring for this country. I want to continue scoring goals for this country.”
Olunga, who plays for Al Duhail, has increased his tally to 29 goals from 58 international appearances.
He is closing in on Dennis Oliech’s record of 34 goals, which places Oliech second on Kenya’s all-time goal-scoring list, achieved over 76 games from 2002 to 2015.
“If given an opportunity by the coach, I will continue to do my best to try and help the team to secure victory,” Olunga added, highlighting his readiness to contribute to the team's success in the upcoming qualifiers.
Olunga’s prolific form is a boost for Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat, who has steadfastly supported the striker even when he endured a six-game goal drought between March and November 2023. With Olunga back to his best, the team is optimistic about their chances in the forthcoming matches.
The Harambee Stars are set to leave for Malawi on Sunday, eager to continue their positive momentum and edge closer to securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
