The Spanish-born Kenyan international became the first signing for the newly-promoted side
Kenyan international Ismael Gonzalez has joined Spanish fourth tier side Aguilas FC from Sabadell who were playing in the third tier.
Gonzalez became the first signing for the side ahead of next season as Aguilas prepares for life in the new division after being promoted three months ago.
This is the sixth club for the 28-year-old Spanish-born versatile player who can play in midfield and defence.
“The new blue and white player was trained in the Canary Islands, where he is from despite his African descent. There, he went through the ranks of UD Vecindario and Union Deportiva Las Palmas, with whose second team he made his debut in Second Division 'B' in the 2014/2015 season,” Aguilas said via a statement on its website following the signing.
“He spent four seasons in the subsidiary 'Pío-Pío' and one in the first team, interspersed with stays at Cacereno, Recreativo Granada and Fuenlabrada.
“After his little adventure in professional football, in 2021 he joined the ranks of Real Murcia, with whom he played 20 games (15 of them as a starter) between the regular season and the playoffs, scored a goal and was promoted to the First RFEF. Precisely in this category, he competed in this last season, wearing Sabadell's harlequin shirt.”
Born to a Kenyan father and Spanish mother, Gonzalez, who has made 11 appearances for Harambee Stars, can play in central midfield and at right-back.
The 28-year-old has played his whole career in the lower leagues of Spanish football, starting with Las Palmas before a loan move to Cacereno, Granada B, Fuenlabrada, Real Murcia before last season’s stint with Sabadell.
