The NPFL champions are the only Nigerian team left in any of the CAF competitions this season and will begin their journey in the group stage this weekend.
The head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, says his club is 'battle ready' for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC.
Rivers United will continue their journey in CAF's second tier competition this weekend as Nigeria's only representative left in the continent.
The Pride of Rivers are visitors in Brazzaville, Congo, where they will take on their hosts, Diables Noirs, in the opening game in Group B.
United battle ready for Noirs
Speaking after his team departed for Congo, the NPFL winner stated that the Port Harcourt-based team has been working hard and perfecting their strategies ahead of the lucrative stage of the competition.
"Whether in the continent or league, what we know how to do is to perfect our strategy, get our plans right and make sure that the players are playing to tactics," Eguma said.
"I think that's what we need to do (in CAFCC). We are equal to the task, we're working very hard."
Eguma credits NPFL
With a crucial game against Noirs facing them, Eguma also noted that the Nigerian football league has helped the Pride of Rivers to prepare for the task ahead in the CAFCC.
United have won four of their first six games in the competition, with a draw and defeat in the other two.
According to the experienced tactician, the NPFL has been good for Rivers United as the competition in the league has kept his team on their toes.
"One good thing is that the league is putting us on our toes to compete in the continent," he added. "I think it's good for us at this stage. We are ready, battle ready."
United looking to start on a good note
With the Pride Nigeria's sole representative in the continent, Eguma and his players will be looking to make a mark in the competition.
United will however have to work really hard to get out of Group B which includes Ivorian giants, ASEC Mimosa, DC Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and their hosts on Sunday, Noirs.
In terms of their form, Eguma's boys will be looking for a quick return to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat in Gombe against newly promoted side, Doma United, snapped their a run of six matches without defeat.
Home Turf
Rivers United not play their matches in Nigeria at their usual home at the Adokiye Amiesamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt after CAF ruled that the stadium failed to meet up with the requirements for hosting continental club matches.
Therefore, the Pride will make use of the excellent Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which is not too far a distance from Port Harcourt.
