Jadon Sancho has opened up on his decision to join Chelsea on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
Jadon Sancho has revealed that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca convinced him to make the surprise loan move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day.
The Manchester United winger, who joined the Blues for the 2024-25 season with an option for a permanent deal, credited Maresca's vision for the project as the key factor in his decision.
Sancho reveals reason for joining Chelsea
"Enzo Maresca really drew me to the project," Sancho told the Chelsea website.
"I knew him from his time with Pep Guardiola in Manchester City. He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here, and for a young player like myself it's exciting and I can't wait to get started."
Sancho, who will wear the number 19 shirt at Chelsea, is eager to get started and compete for a starting spot among the team's talented young wingers.
Despite the challenge ahead, he's clearly excited about the opportunity to be a part of Maresca's project.
The Blues will however, feel disappointed at their failure to complete a move for Victor Osimhen on deadline day.
The Blues were desperate to add a proven goalscorer but reportedly refused to break their wage structure to accommodate the Nigerian, causing a breakdown in talks.
