Vinicius enjoyed a phenomenal campaign with Real Madrid, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists in 39 games across all competitions. The Brazilian international's impressive displays were instrumental in Los Blancos' triumphant La Liga and Champions League campaigns.
"Vinicius can win you a match alone, of course, with the help of his teammates, but he is very good when Real Madrid needs him and that is why I think he deserves the Ballon d'Or," Benzema said in an interview (via Madrid Xtra on X).
"He is always there, so he is the best candidate for me."
However, Vinicius faces stiff competition for the award, with teammate Jude Bellingham and Spain's Rodri also in the running. Bellingham had an outstanding season, establishing himself as a key player for Real Madrid, while Rodri was instrumental in Spain's Euro 2024 triumph, finishing as the tournament's best player.
Despite the strong competition, Benzema believes Vinicius' consistency and ability to perform under pressure make him the deserving winner.
It's worth noting that the current Ballon d'Or holder is Lionel Messi, who has won the award a record-breaking eight times and it will be interesting to see if Vinicius can indeed follow in his footsteps.
The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner will be announced in October.
