The Italian manager recently gushed about one of the West London club’s latest signings.
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca had high praise for Renato Veiga after the young midfielder scored a goal and delivered a strong performance in Chelsea's 4-2 win over Gent in the UEFA Conference League.
What Maresca said about Veiga
The Italian manager highlighted the summer arrival’s versatility, comparing his physicality to Cesare Casadei's after the Blues' continental meeting with the Belgian side.
Maresca noted how Veiga has successfully adapted to various roles this season, playing as an attacking midfielder, a holding midfielder, and even a full-back.
The Chelsea boss was particularly impressed with Veiga's performance as an attacking midfielder against Gent, a position he had never played for Chelsea, praising the 21-year-old’s unexpected goal and his overall contribution to the team's victory.
"It's similar to Cesare Casadei in terms of physicality. He is tall, he is big,” said Maresca. “Tonight he played like an attacking midfielder, in the pocket for the first time of the season for us.
“He did very well. You never imagine Renato arriving in the box and scoring from the other side. That means he is doing well.
"When we needed him as a holding midfielder against Bournemouth, he was there. The other day against Brighton, as a full-back. He is versatile. Tonight he was playing like an attacking midfielder but overall I think he did well."
