Rodri’s international teammate Dani Carvajal has urged him to leave Premier League champions Manchester City.
Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has seemingly begun a charm offensive, urging his Spanish national teammate Rodri to consider a switch from Manchester City to the Bernabéu.
The two lynchpins for La Roja have been pivotal for Spain in their run to the 2024 European Championship final.
The 32-year-old defender was effusive in his praise for the midfielder, echoing how important he is to the success of the national team and revealing how much he has pleaded with him to join Los Blancos.
There is no sun in Manchester - Carvajal
This apparent recruitment attempt comes amidst a period of midfield flux for Real Madrid. Veteran Luka Modric is nearing the twilight of his career, and Toni Kroos has officially hung his boots.
Rodri, known for his calmness on the ball and excellent tempo-control, perfectly fits the profile of a player Carlo Ancelotti is looking for, a sentiment Carvajal echoes.
“I tell Rodri every day to sign for Real Madrid. I tell him every day to leave Manchester, that there is no sun there and to come to Madrid that we need him”, he said during an interview with Spanish radio station El Partidazo de COPE.
“He tells me he has a contract. But he would be perfect for us," he added.
The 28-year-old has been a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola's successful City side, winning a historic four consecutive Premier League titles. The lure of Los Blancos, a club with a rich history of attracting world-class players, could, however, prove tempting.
While Manchester City would undoubtedly fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their midfield maestro, a significant transfer bid from Real Madrid could spark a bidding war. However, Rodri's current contract runs until 2027, which puts City in a strong position.
