Headache for Laporta as "sellable" Barcelona asset suffers two months injury

Barcelona's summer transfer plans took a hit as another player suffered a long-term injury.

Barcelona have announced that Danish defender Andreas Christensen has suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for up to two months.

The 28-year-old was a key player in Xavi Hernandez's set-up last season, as he could be deployed as a defensive midfielder and as a centre-back. However, he was not one of those deemed untouchable by the club; hence, they were hoping to get a sizable transfer fee for him this summer. However, his recent injury has now thrown a wrench into that plan.

Christensen's injury

The Dane has missed days of training after feeling some discomfort. He was scheduled for tests, and after the examination, it was confirmed by the club that he was suffering from tendinopathy in his left Achilles.

According to Football Espana, he had been diagnosed with the injury in preseason, and while it was manageable then, the condition has now worsened, and the estimated recovery period is two months.

What this means for Barcelona's finances

As stated earlier, Christensen was one of the players Barcelona were hoping to get offers for late in the transfer window, with the likes of Newcastle keeping tabs on him as they seek to improve their FFP standing.

However, his injury, which will keep him out until at least the end of October, could deter clubs from considering him this summer.

Injuries continue to impact Barcelona's summer plans, as they also hoped to sell Ronald Araujo and Ansu Fati this window before injuries ruled the pair out of contention.
