Victor Boniface: Bayer Leverkusen boss tells Super Eagles star to prove himself when he’s fit
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has claimed that Victor Boniface would need to demonstrate his abilities once more to regain Patrik Schick's starting shirt.
This match marked Osimhen's first start since recovering from injury, and he wasted no time making an impact, converting a penalty just three minutes into the game to give his team an early lead.
Despite an equaliser from Kayserispor's Stephane Bahoken shortly after, Galatasaray regained control with goals from Barıs Alper Yılmaz and Yunus Akgun before Osimhen added his second in the 71st minute, with his exceptional finishing ability on display.
Osimhen's performance not only helped Galatasaray to extend their unbeaten run in the league and across competitions but also solidified their position at the top of the league table with 44 points from 16 games.
What Boniface said
With this brace, Osimhen now has nine goals and three assists across in the Super Lig this season, reaffirming his status as a key player for the reigning champions.
Following the match, fellow Nigerian forward Boniface took to social media to celebrate Osimhen's impressive display.
He shared a post on his Instagram story simply captioned "Highest," which Osimhen acknowledged by reposting it on his own story.
This exchange shows the strong bond between the two players, who continue to support each other both on and off the pitch.
Meanwhile, as Osimhen joined other Naija Stars Abroad to represent their respective clubs at the weekend, Boniface watched as his Bayer Leverkusen teammates ended the first half of the season in style.
The 24-year-old has been out injured after picking up an injury while on an international break with Nigeria. But despite returning to training, he watched from the stands as Leverkusen sealed a 5-1 win against Freiburg.
