Omija, who produced a heroic performance for Harambee Stars against Ivory Coast on his debut last June, has seen his contract at Oman side Dhofar expire.
Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija could be on the verge of a significant career move following the expiry of his contract with Omani club Dhofar Club.
The former Kariobangi Sharks and Gor Mahia player, who joined Dhofar in February 2023, has become a pivotal figure for the team, culminating in a triumphant victory in the His Majesty Sultan Cup in May—a victory that may well be his last with the club.
Omija's contract has now expired, and his future with Dhofar is uncertain. Despite the club’s offer of a contract extension, Omija is taking his time to consider his next steps.

Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija explains how his game has been elevated since moving abroad
Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija has credited his improved game to moving abroad, having switched to Oman two years ago.
“I am out of contract and right now anything could happen. They have offered me a contract extension but right now I have not made a decision and I cannot say whether I am going back there or not, but things will be clearer soon,” he said as quoted on Mozzart Sport.
Speculation is rife about Omija’s next move. Without divulging too many details, the player acknowledged having several offers on the table, which are currently under review.
His rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed, and he is now an integral part of the Kenyan national team setup, receiving accolades from national team head coach Engin Firat. Omija was a key player for Kenya in the COSAFA tournament held in South Africa.
Coach Firat’s praise for Omija highlights the defender’s exceptional qualities and potential.
“Everyone from outside may be surprised to see the qualities of Omija, but I am not surprised because when I saw Alphonce for the first time, I was sure about him.
“He waited for his chance and took his chance against the African champions, and he did his job well. He is only 21,” Firat said.
Firat further emphasized Omija’s journey, noting that despite his talent, the player was overlooked in the Kenyan league.
“You should also remember that Omija was in the Kenyan league, and nobody gave him a real chance, nobody.

CECAFA Kagame Cup: Levin Odhiambo's strike not enough as Gor Mahia are held by Djibouti Telecom
Although he found the back of the net on his first start for the club, Levin Odhiambo's late first half goal was not enough as Gor Mahia were held to a frustrating draw by Djibouti Telecom.
“So, therefore, when I invited him for the first time to join the Harambee Stars camp, nobody knew where he was, even most people didn’t know who he was,” added Firat.
Omija’s potential departure from Dhofar Club opens a new chapter in his promising career.
At just 21 years old, his future is bright, and the decision he makes next could shape the trajectory of his professional journey.
Whether he remains in the Middle East or seeks new challenges elsewhere, Omija’s talent and determination ensure that he will be a player to watch in the coming years.
