The Uganda U-20 team that qualified to the Egypt Africa Cup of Nations have been rewarded by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), seven months later.
The Hippos made the continental showpiece in style, clinching the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers after beating South Sudan 2-1 in the final in November 2022.
On return after the glory, FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo pledged UGX. 5 million to each member of the team.
"FUFA will extend five million shillings to every member who was part of the team in Sudan as a token of appreciation," Magogo said then, as he received the team at FUFA House, Mengo.
And, a member that was part of the team that triumphed in Sudan, but preferred anonymity, confirmed receipt of the money to Pulse Sports Uganda.
"We have received the money a few days back, some of the other guys have also told me they have received theirs," he revealed.
At the U-20 AFCON in Egypt, Uganda would go on to finish in the quarterfinals at the expense of West African powerhouse, Nigeria.
The Hippos thus, narrowly missed out on a spot in the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
