CAF Confederation Cup: History for Aucho, Yanga as they hit maiden continental final

Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC cruised to the CAF Confederation Cup final for the first time ever after ejecting Ismail Watenga's Marumo Gallants of South Africa, courtesy of a comfortable 4-1 aggregate victory.

Following a first-leg 2-0 win in Tanzania, Yanga headed to South Africa and triumphed after a 2-1 win at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday.

Laser-sharp marksman Fiston Mayele and Kennedy Musonda netted either side of the 90 minutes to make history, as they qualified for a continental final for the first time in history.

Uganda Cranes deputy skipper Khalid Aucho featured and lasted for 64 minutes, becoming the first Ugandan to reach the final of a continental showpiece.

Meanwhile, Aucho's compatriot Watenga, who trades for the opposite side, only made the bench with Zimbabwe's Washington Arubi as the preferred starter between the sticks.

In the evening, while the hosts dominated the possession, the guests carried the biggest attacking threat, mastering six attempts on target.

Mayele, at the stroke of halftime, drove the ball from a distance and unleashed a shot that Arubi saved before he tucked in the rebound.

Two minutes past the hour-mark, Musonda added the final nail in Marumo Gallants' coffin after latching on a Mayele ball to send the away fans into wild celebrations.

The home team found a consolation a minute into the added time of the 90 through South African Ranga Chivaviro.

Yanga will now hope to become the first East African team to clinch the CAF Confederation with one of USM Alger or ASEC Mimosas set to make the final.

The two battle it out in the other semifinal later on Wednesday. The first leg in Ivory Coast ended in a barren stalemate.
