Manchester City crowned Club World Champions amid fiery clash between Kyle Walker and Felipe Melo
Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, made history in Jeddah as they were crowned the Club World Cup champions following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Brazil's Fluminense. However, this game ended with a brawl between Kyle Walker and Felipe Melo, who had to be pulled apart.
The most interesting record of the night, however, was set by Croatia international Mateo Kovacic, who scored in the semi-final victory over Asian champions Urawa Red Diamonds.
What happened
The former Chelsea midfielder was one of three goalscorers as Manchester City blew past the Japanese side to book a final against Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense.
In the final against the Brazilians, Kovacic came on in the 61st minute, replacing young Rico Lewis, as City added two more goals to their first-half tally to win 4-0.
The triumph in Riyadh was the first such for Manchester City, but for Kovacic, it was his fourth time being crowned World Champion.
The 28-year-old won the title with Real Madrid for the 2016 and 2017 editions; he won with Chelsea in 2021; and this year he is world champion with a third different club, Manchester City.
Kovacic became the first player to do so, winning the WCC with three separate clubs, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United and Real Madrid), Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich and Real Madrid), David Alaba (Bayern Munich and Real Madrid), and Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea and Real Madrid), who all did it with only two teams, according to Croatia Weekly.
