The win sets Horoya in second place, and Simba settles in third due to a better goal difference against Vipers.

AC Horoya from Guinea narrowly beat Simba Sports Club 1-0 at home to start their CAF Champions League Group C fixtures on a positive note.

The Tanzanians were the better side but failed to break the hosts' solid defence for a goal inside the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Conakry.

Senegal's 21-year-old striker Pape Abdou Ndiaye headed the Guineans into an early 18th-minute advantage from Amadou Wonkoye's corner kick.

After missing a penalty, the youngster failed to double the lead and grab his brace in the second half.

Kenyan defender Joash Onyango handled the ball inside the forbidden area, but Taifa Stars' first-choice keeper Aishi Manula stopped Ndiaye's kick.

The win sets Horoya in second place, and Simba settles in third due to a better goal difference against Vipers.

Focus shifts to next weekend, with Horoya flying to Kampala to play Vipers at the St. Mary's stadium in Kitende.

In the other match, Simba, under former Vipers coach Robertinho, returns to Dar Es Salaam to host the super-hot Raja Casablanca from Morocco.
