The La Masia graduate can still do more as there are three more milestones that the Spanish 16-year-old could reach to cement himself as the biggest talent in football at the moment when La Roja take on England in the Euro 2024 final.

Yamal would be more than a year younger than Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, who was 18 years and 327 days old when he broke the record for the youngest player to appear in the final of the Euros when Portugal became champions in 2016.

Having already broken Pele’s record by becoming the youngest player to appear in the semi-final of a World Cup or Euros, Yamal could go one step further by becoming the youngest player to appear in the final of these major competitions. Pele was 17 years and 249 days old when he played in the 1958 World Cup final against Sweden, and Yamal will be 248 days younger in the final of the 2024 Euros.

Youngest goal scorer in a World Cup or Euros final

After registering three assists before the Euro 2024 semifinal against France, midfielder Adrien Rabiot challenged Yamal to “do more” and the teenager obliged with a phenomenal goal to help Spain overcome Les Bleus to reach the final.

Yamal’s goal made him the youngest player to score in the semifinal of a European Championship or World Cup, beating Pele’s record of 17 years and 239 days old in the 1958 World Cup, and the Barcelona starlet could go one step further in the 2024 Euros final.

If Yamal scores in the final, aged 17 years and one day, he will become the youngest player to have scored in the Euros or World Cup final, beating Pele who was 17 years and 249 days old when he scored against Sweden in the 1958 World Cup final.

Youngest MVP at a Euros, World Cup, or Copa America

Yamal’s impressive displays at Euro 2024 also mean that the young Spaniard could be on the cusp of being named the best player at the tournament, which would make him the youngest player to win the MVP award at either a World Cup, Euros, or even Copa America finals in history.

Currently, Brazilian great Ronaldo is the youngest-ever tournament MVP at any of those three major tournaments, having been named the best player at the 1997 edition of the Copa America aged 20 years and 314 days old, before going on to repeat the feat at the 1998 World Cup as well.

Lamine could beat Ronaldo’s record with three years to spare and is currently the favourite to clinch the award among bookmakers.

Meanwhile looking back at the life of Pelé, he is regarded as the king of football by many fans.
