The Queens of football wore the actual throne on Sunday as like it's been all season; they didn't have to trouble their royal souls to comfortably beat their 'would-have-been' competitors UCU Lady Cardinals, 2-0 at Kabojja.
Victory took their point-tally to 40 points, 17 ahead of runners-up Kawempe Muslim Ladies, with four games to wrap the campaign.
"We are champions because we worked for it and didn't give up, even when sometimes things didn't go our way," noted head coach Hamza Lutalo to Pulse Sports.
It's, however, hard to recall a single moment when things didn't match their way, unlike the rest of the chasing pack.
As per the league standards, they boast enviable structural organization, seasonal preparation and the most critical aspect, the funds.
Kampala Queens made their intentions clear from day one of the season, beating the defending champions She Corporate in the opener, and have consistently not looked back.
"They played as champions from the word go, and they deserve all the credit," UCU head coach Collins Ahumuza confessed in an honest assessment.
They made valuable additions before and midway through the season, many of whom are among the finest in their positions in the country.
"Had they missed the league this season, given the kind of signings they made and their preparations, it would be a shame. In every department, they are the strongest," Ahumuza observed.
The Moses Magogo-owned team acquired the likes of Grace Aluka, Joan Nabirye, Sumayah Komuntale, Asia Nakibuuka, Daisy Nakaziro, Teddy Najjuma, Elizabeth Nakigozi and the decorated and celebrated Hasifah Nassuna, among others.
The latter, having joined midway through the season, turned them into a different animal, results monsters, with a touch of a champion.
"Your contribution with goals assists, and general motivation to the team earned us the maiden championship," their President, Magogo paid homage to Nassuna in a tweet.
Having made numerous additions, Kampala Queens did not let most of its core go. The likes of Daisy Nakaziro, Shamirah Nalugya, Resty Nanziri, and Margret Kunihira, among others, stayed put and were integral to absolute dominion.
Success in the current season was inevitable, given the manner they lost the title to She Corporate last year; the Queens were undone by just a single goal in a race that went all the way to the finish line.
"The team became stronger, especially mentally, after the way it fought but lost the trophy last year; it gave everyone extra motivation," noted Lutalo.
Meanwhile, the chasing pack was absurdly non-existent all season, as they often times choked on inconsistency.
She Corporate, was expected to mount the biggest fight in defence of their title but have been woeful all season, and in fifth with 17 points, they trail the Queens by 23. The former is only two points ahead of relegation.
Each of Kawempe Muslim, Uganda Martyrs WFC and UCU blew hot and cold all season, and in second, third and fourth, respectively, their fight lies on who takes home the runners-up belt.
