Before Wasswa left for the Uganda Cranes camp for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria in June, Wasswa had reached a deal in principal for a contract extension with the club.

Thirteen-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC allegedly did a Manchester United-David De Gea, to defender Geoffrey Wasswa, agreeing a contract and later reverting it.

Before Wasswa left for the Uganda Cranes camp for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria in June, Wasswa had reached a deal in principal for a contract extension with the club.

According to his representative, who preferred anonymity, the player ditched any plans of exploring options elsewhere, as the terms of a new contract had been agreed and all that was left was signing the contract.

"Before he went for the Cranes camp, we had talks with the club and reached an agreement," the source told Pulse Sports Uganda.

He asserts that the two parties had negotiated the sign-on fee for the renewal of the contract only for the club to return later and slice it to more than a half.

"We told them what we needed and we expected a significant response only for them to return with less than a half."

"That wasn't our biggest issue though, the problem is they only told us they didn't accept our proposed sign-on the same day they called to tell us about the release,” the source added.

From having an agreement to being informed on a phone call about the release did not settle well with Wasswa, who was hugely impressive in the previous campaign.

The representative also revealed Wasswa had two months (October) to see out his contract but an administrator (name withheld) at the club, informed them of certain clauses in the contract that state otherwise.

Efforts to reach the club for their take on the matter were futile as calls to the CEO, Ms Anisha Muhoozi went unanswered.

Wasswa played 27 league games last season, missing out just one and ranked among the finest in his position.

His unprecedented departure did not sit well with a section of the KCCA faithful who viewed him as the core for a possible rebuild.
