A source at Gaddafi revealed to this website that the coach travelled to the Gaddafi Barracks for a talk with the club president, Lt. Edrine Ochieng but the move hit a dead end.

Pulse Sports understands that Arua Hill’s head coach, Charles Livingstone Mbabazi, was quietly searching for a route outside the club before the start of the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Arua Hill has endured a major storm this year with a number of senior players including their former captain Rashid Toha quitting the club after the end of the 2022/23 season.

A source at Gaddafi revealed to this website that the coach travelled to the Gaddafi Barracks for a talk with the club president, Lt. Edrine Ochieng but the move hit a dead end.

“[Livingstone] Mbabazi had wanted the job and even travelled physically to talk to the president, but it was a little bit too late,” our source who talked on condition of anonymity said.

“At that point, he looked a little desperate and wanted to train the club for any fee as he keeps himself active in the league, but the president’s mind was already made up.

Emerging coaches

Our source revealed that Ochieng had already made up his mind to ignore the established coaches after his encounter with Wasswa Bbosa last season, as he preferred an emerging coach to concentrate on rebuilding.

Earlier on in June, the Gaddafi president confirmed similar reasons to Pulse Sports.

“By that time Mbabazi arrived,” our source adds, “the club had just agreed to a deal with coach [David] Mutono.

Mutono was officially unveiled last week on Wednesday after training the team for about a month or so.

Troubled Kongolo

The Kongolo burst into the scene in the 2020/21 season, trampling on their opponents on their way to win the FUFA Big League title as well as earning a direct promotion slot to the Uganda Premier League.

They shocked teams at their Barifa Grounds, where they lost only one game as they finished fifth on the table.

They returned an even tougher animal last season moving a place up to fourth with 44 points, just nine short of eventual champions Vipers.

However, trouble started brewing as a number of players opted out, citing financial challenges and then managerial gaps as the club was linked to new owners.

The club's chief executive officer, Pius Bamwange, quit as well, but it was reported that Mbabazi opted to stay and build on what was left.

This website confirmed that the coach travelled to Jinja to talk to BUL FC towards the end of last season, but his ambition to take over from Alex Isabirye was futile as the club settled for Abbey Kikomeko.

Their woes seem to have spilt over to the season, where they had initially been bundled out of the league for failing to meet the minimum licensing requirements alongside Busoga United but were pardoned.

They started the season with a 1-0 loss to Busoga at their new home, Paridi Stadium in Adjumani.
