Shikanda was recently voted the FKF National Executive Comitee member representing Nairobi region.
AFC Leopards' outgoing chairman, Daniel Shikanda, is charting a careful course for the future of the club as his tenure comes to an end.
Fresh off clinching a seat on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) as Nairobi's representative, Shikanda is now grappling with how best to hand over power and ensure a smooth transition for the iconic Kenyan football club.
In a tightly contested election held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena last weekend, Shikanda emerged victorious with 25 votes, narrowly defeating seasoned administrator Michael Ouma, who garnered 23 votes. Isaac Macharia trailed with 22 votes.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda clears the air over Tomas Trucha's contract termination terms
Although Trucha left the club a little over a week ago, the details over the mutual termination of his contract are yet to be finalised, which could have serious ramifications if not settled quicker.
Shikanda's victory now secures his position in FKF's executive meetings, where he will play a key role in shaping the future of Kenyan football.
However, with his role as AFC Leopards chairman set to expire in June 2024, Shikanda faces a potential conflict of interest and is expected to step down to avoid any complications.
Despite this, the former Kenyan international is weighing his options, emphasizing the importance of stabilizing the club first before focusing on the leadership transition.
"We've been through some challenging times," Shikanda admitted in an interview with Pulse Sports. "The next six months will be crucial for the club. We must ensure that the transition doesn't destabilize the progress we've made."
Shikanda's leadership journey at AFC Leopards began in June 2019, when he succeeded Dan Mule. His re-election in 2022 for a second and final term capped off his commitment to the club. Now, as he prepares for his departure, he remains deeply focused on maintaining stability at the club.
“We are an institution that follows its own rules,” Shikanda remarked. "I will sit down with the club's NEC and assess where we stand. My goal is to stabilize the club and ensure a seamless transition. I don’t want debates or political distractions to affect the club's future."
With elections looming, Shikanda is optimistic about the future of the club and the democratic process that will guide the selection of his successor. He expressed confidence in the upcoming elections, hoping that they will pave the way for a credible leadership transition.
As the clock ticks down to June, AFC Leopards fans will be watching closely as Shikanda navigates the challenges of leaving behind a legacy while ensuring the club's future is secure.
