The 35-year-old shot-stopper and Chiefs captain, who has spent his entire club playing career with the Amakhosi, having joined the club’s youth ranks in 2004.

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has told off everyone that is calling for his retirement in South Africa to forget about it for now.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper and Chiefs captain, who has spent his entire club playing career with the Amakhosi, having joined the club’s youth ranks in 2004.

“I always look up to goalkeepers like Gianluigi Buffon and Hassam El Hadary,” Khune told sports broadcaster Robert Marawa on his show.

“Those have kept me going; you just have to invest in yourself, I have a gym at home, so I work extra hard.

“For people to keep on saying I must retire, I know South Africans always think we players at 35 must retire.”

“I might not be getting game time, but the coach told me his plans that this would happen, so I am more than ok,” Khune added.

Kaiser Chiefs are undergoing their longest trophy drought in the club’s history, the Soweto giants have gone six seasons without winning any silverware, and Khune says he is doing everything to help the club win.

“I just have to guide the goalkeepers at the club, I respect the club, and they respect me; the reason why I am on the bench shows that my experience is needed and that I add a valuable contribution.”

‘Spiderman’ who has over the past three seasons fallen behind the pecking order at the club has less than a month remaining on his current deal, and many are waiting to see if Kaizer Chiefs will renew Khune’s contract next season.
