The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager revealed the heartwarming reason why he cannot visit Africa
Jose Mourinho, the renowned football manager known for his wit and humor, recently shared a light-hearted reason behind his reluctance to visit Africa anytime soon.
During an engaging conversation on the FIVE YouTube channel, Mourinho revealed the unique bond he shares with African players and the overwhelming affection he receives from the continent, making it difficult for him to make visits.
Overwhelming Love in Africa for Mourinho
Mourinho, who has a celebrated managerial career, spoke fondly of the loyalty African players have shown him over the years. Having managed football stars such as Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, and others during his tenure at Chelsea and other European clubs, Mourinho has formed lasting relationships with his African contingent.
The primary reason Mourinho cited for his hesitation to visit Africa stems from the immense love and fanfare he receives whenever he sets foot on the continent. "I cannot go to Africa," Mourinho humorously remarked, pointing out the challenges of moving around due to the adoration he receives from fans.
“Too much everywhere. Because, you know, I had, you know Didier Drogba - Ivory Coast, Geremi - Cameroon, Kalou - Ivory Coast, Obi Mikel - Nigeria, Essien - Ghana, I have guys all around the world.
“Every time I go to Africa I cannot walk. The guys, they love me. Even in Europe with many African guys people really love me"
A Testament to Loyalty and Purity
Mourinho's reflections on his relationship with African players extend beyond personal anecdotes. He expressed a deep appreciation for what he perceives as the loyalty and purity of African players. This admiration, coupled with the mutual respect and affection between him and his former players, underscores the special connection Mourinho has with the continent and its footballing talents.
Jose Mourinho's comments shine a light on the profound and positive impact a manager can have on his players and vice versa. While his jest about the difficulties of visiting Africa due to the overwhelming affection might keep him from visiting soon, it's clear that Mourinho holds the continent and its players in high regard. His acknowledgment of the loyalty and purity of African players adds another layer to the storied career of one of football's most iconic figures.
