Arteta was quick to express his pride at being associated with his current crop of players after the 3-3 draw with Southampton.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has expressed his pride at being associated with his current crop of players following the 3-3 draw against bottom-of-the-table Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Friday evening.

Arsenal played Southampton knowing that a win would have extended their lead over City to seven points with two games in hand, but were down to Southampton within the first minute of play after a poor pass by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was capitalised on by Carlos Alcaraz.

The Gunners’ bad start to the game would be further worsened 14 minutes later when Theo Walcott made it 2-0. Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back for the hosts before Southampton would go 3-1 up after the break.

The North London-based outfit needed two late goals from Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka to salvage a 3-3 draw, maintaining a five-point lead over Manchester City but still leaving them with a lot of work to do ahead of their 'clash of the titans' meeting at the Etihad Stadium next week.

Asked about what he told them after the game, Arteta said;

"I can't love my players more, really. That's what I told them. In football, when there's big pressure normally players start to hide; I didn't see a single player who did that."

Arteta was quick to praise his players in a similar version after they lost two back-to-back games against Everton and Manchester City in February.

Arsenal face an uphill task in their pursuit of the title with a tough run-in that also includes games against Newcastle, Brighton and Chelsea still to play.
