"I am so sorry for him," Guardiola said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
"Always, I like to play against the biggest and toughest squad."
Guardiola praised Odegaard's exceptional abilities and leadership.
"Odegaard is the captain of Arsenal, and everybody knows he's an important and exceptional player."
The reigning champions welcome Arsenal to the Etihad with a 2-point lead at the top of the table after winning their first four games of the season.
City could also be without star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who picked up an injury in their UEFA Champions League draw against Inter Milan in midweek.
