In 2016, Obaje finished as the NPFL top scorer having found the back of the net on 18 occasions for Wikki Tourists.
Rangers striker Godwin Obaje has optimistically stated that when the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) resumes after the mid-season break, he would add to his total number of goals.
The forward who had struggled to make his mark this season scored in the fifth minute of play for the Flying Antelopes in their 1-1 Week 9 draw with Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa on Sunday.
The goal helped Rangers who had suffered a difficult start to the season, earn a vital draw away from home, enough to take them two points away from the relegation places in Group B.
Obaje hoping to partner more with teammates
Reacting to his performance, and that of his teammates in Yenegoa, the 26-year-old claimed that they had done well, although he would need more of their help to do even better.
“We played against a very determined side in Bayelsa United, though we hoped of snatching the maximum points,” Obaje said in an interview with Daily Post.
“I hope to score more goals this season. I am counting on my teammates to help me achieve this objective."
In 2016, Obaje finished as the NPFL top scorer having found the back of the net on 18 occasions for Wikki Tourists.
Obaje's Rangers 7th in Group B
As it stands, Rangers sit in seventh place in Group B with 9 points, having won two of their eight matches this season, losing the other three, and drawing three as well.
Their points tally see them just sit two points off relegation places in Group, although with a game in hand.
The NPFL would go on a three-week break on completion of Week 9 fixtures on Wednesday, following the 2023 Nigerian Presidential/Parliament/Gubernatorial elections.
Upon return, the Flying Antelopes will take on defending champions Rivers United in rescheduled Week 8 on March 19, in Port Harcourt.
