Arsenal and France defender William Saliba has revealed that he is very close to becoming the best centre-back in world football.
William Saliba believes there is just one thing standing in the way of him becoming the best defender in the world and surpassing the likes of Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk, Manchester City's Ruben Dias, and Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger.
The Arsenal defender is widely recognised as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League but he is yet to be viewed through those lenses on the world stage.
Still only 23, Saliba was pivotal for the Gunners as they pushed Manchester City for the past two seasons and has started the new campaign in similar fashion.
He was also a key player for France, starting all six games at EURO 2024.

Saliba ready to become best defender in the world
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League opener at Atalanta on Thursday, Saliba told Fox Sports, “I have been on the right track for both seasons, mainly last season.
“I’m perhaps on my way to becoming the best defender in the world. I think I’m one of the best at the moment, but I have to win some titles. I think that’s what I’m missing right now.
“If you win titles, you’re good and if you don’t, you can’t say you’re the best. That’s what I believe. I’m one of the best in the world.”
