Kitara earned a promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a game to spare.
Sam Ssimbwa was not carried away by Kitara’s promotion back to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after their 3-0 win at Adjumani Town Council as he emphasised that he needs to get promoted with a championship medal.
Goals from Paul Mucureezi, George Senkaaba and Paddy Muhumuza sealed Kitara’s fate as they won only their fourth game away this season.
“I told everyone that even if they wanted it or not, guiding the team to promotion was not something that would defeat me,” Ssimbwa said in his post-match comments.
The coach emphasised that the team must remain focused and win their remaining match at home against Kaaro Karungi to prove that they are the best in the division.
“I promoted Masaka [Local Council] to the topflight after them failing to do that in twelve years. Our task now is to take the trophy by beating them on the last day,” Ssimbwa answered.
Kitara, with 58 points, is four ahead of Police in fourth place, meaning their promotion is mathematically confirmed. They go up alongside Mbarara City who beat Kaaro Karungi 2-0 in Ibanda.
