The 25-year-old, who was locked up in a legal transfer battle between money bags Azam FC and ‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi, says he can only return to Young Africans if President Hersi Said leaves his position.
Sidelined Young Africans midfielder Feisal Salum AKA Fei Toto, has finally broken his silence on his absence from the Tanzanian giants’ squad since December 2022.
The 25-year-old, who was locked up in a legal transfer battle between money bags Azam FC and ‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi, says he can only return to Young Africans if President Hersi Said leaves his position.
“I have no problem with Young Africans,” Feisal told Tanzanian broadcaster Clouds TV in an interview.
“I love the fans, and they love me too; if the president (Hersi Said) left even today, I would immediately return to the team.”
“I tried calling him to tell him my problems, but he refused to pick up my calls. He is undermining me, but if he leaves, then I can return to the club,” he added.
The Fight
It all started in December 2022 when rife media reports indicated that Fei Toto was set to ditch Young Africans for money bags Azam FC.
In the deal, Feisal was supposed to buy out his remaining contract at the tune of Tzshs 100M, approximately 158M Ugx, then join the Ice cream makers as a free agent.
Young Africans declined Fei Toto’s proposal, and the player’s representatives took the matter to the Tanzanian FA. However, the issue remains unresolved with Faisal Salum out of the team since December.
Hersi Said’s side of the story
Young African president Engineer Hersi Said has maintained his innocence, saying as a club, they are willing to listen and discuss with another club (even Simba) that would want to sign Feisal Salum.
“As a club, we’re open; we’ve been paying his (Feisal) salary ever since, although it bounces back to our account, I don’t know why, but we’re willing to listen to any offers, and he is free to return.”
Young Africans without Fei Toto
Despite his great combination with Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho,
‘Timu ya Wanainchi’ has managed to retain the league, reach the domestic cup final and also reach their maiden interclub final in the CAF Confederation Cup.
They are up against Algeria’s USM Alger and lost the first leg 2-1 in Dar-es-Salaam; the return leg is set to take place on 3rd June in Algiers.
Despite not playing active club football, Feisal Salum was part of the Tanzanian AFCON qualifier double header against Uganda and came off the bench in both games.
