The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder gave Pep's side the lead after a difficult half-hour before setting up Erling Haaland to make it 2-0.

The Manchester City captain capped off the scoring with a well-taken freekick in the 51st minute to seal a resounding victory for the visitors.

What Gundogan said

When asked how the brilliant strike in the 37th minute came about, he explained that it was his instinct.

Gundogan's strike was a show of close control and impeccable finishing, but he needed time on the ball to execute it, and he credited the Norwegian striker, Haaland, for keeping Everton's defenders occupied.

"It was instinct,” he said, per the BBC.

“It helped me a lot that Erling could distract both centre-backs. I saw the space created and tried to make the run. I was waiting for Riyad's ball.

“Even though it was at the back of my run it came quite well for me to take a touch. Everything after was instinct. I didn't see any other option, I just tried to go for goal. It went well."

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s title hopes have been put in a blender after their loss to Brighton saw them revert to their old selves with another poor result against the Seagulls at the Emirates Stadium.
