The top two winners from the groups will advance to the quarterfinal alongside two best third-placed teams.
Uganda Hippos coach Jackson Mayanja has said that neither he nor his team is under any pressure going into the final Group B fixture against South Sudan in the U-20 2023 African Cup of Nations currently underway.
The Hippos won the opening match against Central African Republic 2-1 but suffered a setback when they drew 2-all against Congo.
The result leaves them second on the table with four points same as Congo but just a point ahead of their Sunday opponent, South Sudan, a team that they beat 2-1 in the final of CECAFA qualifiers.
Mayanja says that they’re not under any pressure.
“I’m not the type who has pressure,” the coach boasted.
“If you have pressure in football as a coach, then you better retire because this is the situation, we find ourselves always. I have told my players not to put pressure on themselves but to go out there and enjoy because this is entertainment.
The top two winners from the groups will advance to the quarterfinal alongside two best third-placed teams. Mayanja believes they will see off South Sudan as they build on their ambitions to reach the World Cup.
“This is a process that we are in where every game is very vital to the team. We’ll always handle every game as it comes and here, we need the points against South Sudan,” he added.
