Despite only being one of the four promoted teams from the NNL, Bendel Insurance sit pretty at the top of Group A with 9 points.
Game week three of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, saw Group A leaders Bendel Insurance pick up their third consecutive victory of the season, with Plateau United breaking Enyimba hearts in Jos.
It was the third round of games for teams in the abridged 2023 season, with four of five Group A matches producing a cumulative 7 goals.
Here's a quick round of Group A.
Nasarawa United 0-3 Akwa United
The day started in Jos with Akwa United picking up their first win of the season at the expense of Nasarawa United at the New Jos Stadium.
A first-half goal by James Ajako and a second-half brace from Ndifreke Effiong were all the Uyo club needed as they handed their hosts their third consecutive defeat this season, leaving rooted to the bottom of Group A.
Kwara United 0-1 Bendel Insurance
For Group A leaders Bendel Insurance, it was yet another win for them since their promotion to the top flight this season, and was well, a second win on the road in three matches.
It was yet again, the Imade Osarenkhoe show as his headed goal in the 25th minute of the game was enough for the Benin Arsenal to grab all three points. It becomes the striker's third this season, with Kwara United, yet to find the back of the net after three matches.
El-Kanemi Warriors 0-0 Gombe United
For the third time this season, Gombe United failed to get their foot on the pedal as they were unable to score in a 0-0 draw with El-Kanemi Warriors.
For the Maiduguri club, the result was a disappointing one after winning in their last fixture at the El-Kanemi Stadium. The result now sees them drop to sixth in Group A. For Gombe United, they slip into the relegation zone.
Plateau United 2-1 Enyimba
The heavyweight tie at the New Jos Stadium lived up to its billing as it was neither devoid of goals nor drama.
An early headed by Enyimba's Chubuike Nwaiwu, was to responded to after ten minutes, by another headed goal by Plateau United's Onyebuchi Ifeanyi.
The main drama in the game was, however, svaed until the final minutes when Kazeem Ogunleye scored a 90+6 minute winner for the hosts before Enyimba's goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo, got sent off by the referee for dissent. The win now sees Plateau United overtake Enyimba and climb into fourth in Group A.
