Merino ruled out due to injury
Merino has been confirmed injured by Arteta after a collision during training, leading to shoulder damage to the player.
According to the Mirror, Arteta said, "Yes, very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has a shoulder injury. It looks like he’s going to be out for a few weeks.
"He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him and it looks like he has a small fracture probably."
Arteta suggested that the Spanish midfielder landed badly on the floor and one of his teammates fell on his hand, leading to a small fracture.
Merino will now undoubtedly miss the match on Saturday against Brighton, as well as the matches in September against Manchester City, Tottenham, Bolton Wanderers, and Leicester.
