Despite beating Inter in the final of the UEFA Champions League last season, the Serie A icon believes that the Nerazzurri's midfield compares favourably to the
Serie A icon Christian Vieri has declared his support for Inter’s squad this season, showering the Nerazzurri with praise after a fantastic start to the 2023/24 campaign.
Vieri praises super Inter team for Serie A performances
Vieri holds the distinction of having played for Italy’s three biggest clubs Juventus, Inter and AC Milan, but believes that one of his teams is head and shoulders above the others after their brilliant start to the season.
The blue half of Milan have powered to the top of Serie A, with 10 wins from 12 games, and Vieri believes that they are the best team in the league this season.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Atletico Madrid forward said, “Inter are playing great football. The anomaly is in the points they dropped against Sassuolo and Bologna. With two points more, the gap would be more realistic.”
He also noted that Inter had the strongest team in the land, saying, “Nobody has a deeper squad. All new signings are potential starters: Pavard, Carlos Augusto, Frattesi, Sanchez, Arnautovic.”
Vieri explains biggest strengths of Inter
Vieri noted that although Inter had failed to sign their primary target in the summer transfer window, they still got one of the best players on the market in French forward Marcus Thuram.
The former Lazion forward said, “I like Lukaku. He makes the difference, as we can see at Roma, but Inter signed Thuram. I hadn’t realised he was this strong. Congratulations to those who signed him.”
To further his point about the strength of Inter’s team, Vieri compared the Nerazzurri’s midfield quality with that of reigning European champions Manchester City, saying, “I believe games are won in central midfield. I had already said Inter midfielders are better than Manchester City’s and this season they have Frattesi plus Asslani who has gained experience.
“Everyone can score and it becomes difficult for the opponents because you never see them coming. That’s where Inter’s solidity starts. If you keep the ball, you run fewer risks.”
Inter will be hoping that their incredible midfield can help them reclaim the Serie A title after last winning the Scudetto in 2021.
