How it happened
Inter Milan started the game on the front foot, threatening to run away with the tie, but never managing to take the first step. the first-half ended barren but Inter looked like the team most likely to get the opener.
The visitors managed to crack space in the left side of Sampdoria’s defensive wall, with Federico Di Marco going close to scoring twice before the 60th-minute mark, but poor finishing meant that Emil Audero in goal for Sampdoria kept his clean sheet.
Simeone Inzaghi made a triple change at the 66th-minute mark, bringing on Denzel Dumfries, Marcelo Brozovic, and Edin Dzeko for Mateo Darmian, Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukakau respectively, however, it was to no effect as Sampdoria handled the new inclusions as well as they did their predecessors.
