Lionel Messi could be set for a reunion with old Barcelona mates as Inter Miami prepare deals for Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets
MLS side Inter Miami are reportedly working on deals that will see new signing Lionel Messi reunited with two of his best friends from Barcelona, defender Jordi Alba and midfielder Sergio Busquets.
Alba and Busquets set to link up with Messi
Both players left Barcelona at the end of the 2022/23 season after deciding to call time on their careers with the Blaugrana after lifting the LaLiga title one last time under former teammate Xavi Hernandez.
The pair have now been linked with moves to join Lionel Messi, who jettisoned a possible return to Barcelona for the clear skies of Miami in a multi-million euro deal with David Beckham’s Inter Miami side.
The former Barcelona trio could now link up in Inter Miami and help bring the club out of its current slump in fortunes, which has seen them win only one of their last five fixtures in all competitions.
Alba and Busquets reportedly agree Inter Miami deals
Alba had been approached by other clubs in Spain hoping to offer him continuity in LaLiga, while Busquets had been a target for the oil-rich Saudi Professional League, but reports coming out of Spain suggest that both could now be headed for Inter Miami to link up with Messi.
Spanish radio station RAC 1 suggests that a deal for Busquets has already been agreed on, and all that is left is the official announcement of the Spanish captain as a new player for Inter Miami.
While newspaper Mundo Deportivo also claims that a similar deal is on the table for Alba, with the defender also set to sign a lucrative contract to move to the MLS.
