Isabirye will hope to fend off opposition from Maroons FC head coach Mohammed Ssenfuma and former SC Villa manager Jackson Magera.

Less than a month since leading Vipers SC to a sixth Uganda Premier League title, head coach Alex Isabirye has been nominated for the Coach of the Season.

Isabirye will hope to fend off opposition from Maroons FC head coach Mohammed Ssenfuma and former SC Villa manager Jackson Magera.

And upon nomination, Isabirye highlighted how ecstatic he felt, but did not get carried away given what each of Magera and Ssenfuma achieved last season.

"Of course I'm very happy for the nomination, but I'm not 100% sure I will win because of the competition," he told Pulse Sports Uganda on Saturday.

"The fact that I have been nominated is something I'm thrilled about and I'll take any position I'll make; whether I win or not," he added.

"Every coach has given in their very best to ensure they win, so I'll not really mind whether I come second or third, but I'm happy."

He further added how much of a motivation it is to be named among the finest coaches at the top level.

"This gives me more confidence and responsibility to try and maintain the standards that people expect me to be at," noted Isabirye.

Meanwhile, one of his competitors Ssenfuma guided Maroons to a superb sixth place finish, less than a season since their return to the topflight from the FUFA Big League.

He led the Prison Warders to ten victories and eleven draws, while they lost just seven matches. They managed wins over KCCA and draws against Vipers and Villa.

On the other hand, Magera also had a decent campaign as he led a title charge that only collapsed on the final day of the campaign.

Villa eventually finished third with 52 points, just one adrift of runners-up KCCA FC and leaders Vipers. That was before his shocking dismissal for Serbian coach, Dusan Stojanovic.
