Dele Alli has officially announced his departure from Everton having been out of action for two years.
Former Tottenham and England star Dele Alli has announced his departure from Everton after an underwhelming stint at Goodison Park.
The 27-year-old former teammate of Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi, joined the Toffees in January 2020, but has managed just 13 appearances for the Merseyside club before being loaned to Turkish side Besiktas.
Alli’s exit was confirmed via a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday, where he expressed gratitude to Everton fans and staff while reflecting on his challenging journey.
"As widely published this week, 2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities," Alli wrote.
"Before any of that happens, it’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am of all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.
“It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness."
The former Premier League sensation acknowledged the difficulties he faced in his time with the club, adding, "Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped, and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page.
“I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck and, hopefully, we will see each other again soon."

He is a joke - Alex Iwobi opens up on Deli Alli’s training attitude
Everton forward Alex Iwobi has given his honest thoughts on Dele Alli's disappointing decline.
Dele Alli: A promising career derailed
Alli’s Everton exit marks another chapter in what has been a turbulent career. Once hailed as one of England's brightest prospects, his form declined sharply after leaving Tottenham.
Injuries and personal struggles—including an addiction to sleeping pills, as he revealed in an April interview with Gary Neville—have kept him sidelined from competitive football for two years.
While his time at Everton did not yield the success he or the club had hoped for, Alli remains optimistic about the future.
"Some exciting opportunities" await in 2025, signals a potential comeback for the former young PFA player of the year winner who once dazzled the Premier League with his flair and creativity.
In each of his first two campaigns at White Hart Lane, Alli was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year and made the PFA Team of the Year.
