The Rwanda Premier League season will officially get underway on Saturday, 12th August, when the country’s two biggest clubs face off in the Rwanda FA Super Cup.

APR FC, the most successful club in Rwandan football, will face arch-rivals Rayon Sport at the Pele Kigali stadium, who claimed the Peace Cup last season with both sides having Ugandan players on their books.

Taddeo Lwanga, who joined the army side earlier this year, will face off with compatriots Simon Tamale, Charles Bbaale, Musa Esenu and Joackim Ojera.

Goalkeeper Simon Tamale and forward Charles Bbaale are the latest additions to a Rayon Sport side from Maroons and SC Villa, respectively joining Musa Esenu and Joackim Ojera.

Ojera had a stand-out campaign with ‘Gikundiro’ last season, scoring five goals and assisting seven times in as many games but left the side after his loan spell ended at the end of the season.

The club then launched a fundraising drive to raise his sign-on fees of Ugx 78M, which was collected, and Ojera returned to training.

Pulse Sports has yet to establish the duration of his contract extension, but it’s understood to be two years.

Both sides will represent Rwanda in the CAF interclub competitions, with APR FC set to face Somalia’s Gaadiidka FC, while Rayon Sports got a bye into the second preliminary round.

Rayon Sports will be looking to better their 2018 CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final finish this season.
