The 28-year-old playmaker has been donning the number 22 jersey since joining Fulham from Everton but is now happy to have his 'Big 17' back.
Iwobi gets a new number
In an Instagram post, Iwobi shared the good news with his followers, writing, "Rumour Has It... 17 Is Back!"
The announcement came after Iwobi debuted the new shirt in Fulham's comprehensive 4-0 win against QPR in a preseason fixture played behind closed doors.
Last season, wearing the number 22, Iwobi enjoyed his best campaign in seven seasons, scoring six goals and providing two assists in all competitions for the Cottagers.
With the return of his favourite number, the Nigerian international will be hoping to build on that impressive form and continue making an impact for his club.
Fulham's decision to allocate the number 17 jersey to Iwobi is seen as a show of faith in the player, who has become a key figure in the team since his move from Everton in 2023.
Fans and supporters of the Super Eagles will undoubtedly be delighted to see their star player reclaim a number that has become synonymous with his career.
Iwobi the music star
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles midfielder has clarified why he recorded a song named ‘Don’t Shoot’ while partnering with his colleagues Chuba Akpom and Medy Elito.
Iwobi wrote the song over the summer break after having a huge influence on Fulham in the 2023–2024 campaign.
The midfielder who helped his team finish in 13th place and advance to the Carabao Cup semifinals last season claimed that the song's lyrics are meant to encourage young people to set greater.
Also, he wants the youth to target more ambitious objectives for themselves and to combat the harmful inclinations of London's youth.
Alex Iwobi, who also loves fashion, has always loved music, but his buddies convinced him to record a song even though he had no intention of doing so.
