Luke Shaw faces a battle to be fit in time for England's group stage games in the 2024 Euros.
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has revealed that he should not have played in the Red Devils’ game which led to his 'avoidable' hamstring injury, casting doubt over his participation in the 2024 European Championships.
The left-back has been sidelined since February 18, when he aggravated his injury during a 2-1 win at Luton, a match in which he was asked to play by manager Erik ten Hag.

Ex-Manchester United manager Solskjaer close to shocking return to Premier League
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to making a shocking move to the Premier League.
Despite pushing himself to get fit for the FA Cup final, Shaw has suffered a recurrence of the injury and consequently, he has not trained with his England teammates and is unlikely to participate in their Euro 2024 group opener against Serbia.
Shaw admits mistakes in injury recovery
The 28-year-old full-back has pointed out that mistakes were made in the treatment of his original muscle strain suffered against Aston Villa on February 11. Reflecting on the situation, Shaw admitted, “It’s kind of everyone’s fault. Partly my fault, partly medical staff, I think everyone would admit that. The scan came back and there wasn’t too much there. But I didn’t train all week, then trained the day before the game.
“If the manager asks me to play, I’m never going to say no. I shouldn’t have played.”
Shaw’s season has been plagued by injuries, having started only 12 Premier League games in the 2023/24 season. He expressed his frustration with the situation, noting that some of the injuries, particularly his first hamstring strain, could have been avoided. “That wasn’t the case, things happen, and I’ve just got to move on from that,” he said.
Shaw hoping to recover in time for Euro 2024
With the Euros on the horizon, Shaw is focusing on his recovery and aiming to help England in the tournament. However, he is realistic about his chances of making the opener against Serbia. “I would love to make the first game, I can’t lie,” Shaw admitted. “But I don’t want to rush too quickly because, realistically, I’ve only got one chance. If I feel something, then that’s it, and I don’t want that to happen.”
After opening their group stage fixtures against Serbia, England will also face Denmark and Slovenia as the Three Lions aim for their first-ever European Championships victory.
