Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola discussed his contract situation at the club.

Pep Guardiola’s recent press interview comes as great news for Manchester City fans, as the Spanish manager confirmed that he was open to signing a contract extension with the club.

Guardiola, 53, joined the club in the summer of 2023 and has led the Cityzens through the best period in their history. Last season, he became the first manager to win four consecutive top-flight league titles in England; however, the threat of his exit loomed as he was entering the final year of his contract.

There have been suggestions he planned to have a sabbatical after his contract runs out, and suitors have been on the prowl, with the FA reportedly considering him as the prime replacement for Gareth Southgate.

What Guardiola said

The former Barcelona man has now doused the unrest in City fans who fear his exit at the end of the 2024/25 season, as he stated his desire to continue beyond this campaign.

“I am not ruling out absolutely that I sign a new contract,” Guardiola said, per Sam Lee. “I want to be sure it’s the right decision, not just for me but for the players if they run no matter the competition; that is what I have to see.

“But I am pretty sure eight more years I will not be here! When I decide it’s over first of all I speak to my sporting director and CEO, I wouldn’t do one step without my team knowing it.

“I wouldn’t want to cause a problem in the way I do it. Start the season, see how everything is going, how connected we are all together again and after we will see.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City's first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, has come out to address the rumours surrounding his exit and alleged ill feelings towards his understudy, Stefan Ortega
