The Football Association has however confirmed that he will not be able to play for both club and country until January 16 and has also been fined a sum of £50,000.

Reasons why Ivan Toney was banned

FA Betting Regulations

Between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021, a total of 262 violations of FA Regulation E8 were alleged against the Brentford FC forward. Later, the FA retracted 30 of these violations, and he acknowledged the remaining 232.

This breach has led to an eight-month ban imposed by an Independent Regulatory Commission following a personal hearing today.

Toney is unlikely to move to any other club in the summer due to the long-term ban that will deny him from playing football till next January.

He is permitted to return to training only with his club for the final four months of his suspension starting from 17 September 2023

Several betting accusations

Ivan Toney has been accused of betting severally between 2017 to 2021 which is against the regulations of the FA.

According to the betting rules established by the English Football Association, it states that no Participant can bet on a match or competition in which they are involved that season, or which they can influence, or any other football-related matter concerning the league that they play in. Participants are also prohibited from using or passing inside information for betting.

The Brentford striker broke these rules by placing a bet on the ongoing league or passing inside information to others on betting which has led to his sanction.

Toney admits to the accusations

Ivan Toney has admitted to breaking the betting rules established by the FA and also the 232 betting violations labelled against him.

According to the Daily Mail, Toney had been the subject of an investigation by the FA on November 5, and he responded to the allegations on a Twitter post online saying, “I’m aware of a story about me in a national newspaper today.

“I have been assisting the Football Association with their enquiries and will not be making any comment until such an investigation has reached its conclusion.”

However, he has pleaded guilty to the accusation and his recent admission to the accusation has made the Independent Regulatory Commission body place an eight-month ban on him till next year.
