The Fulham star did not mention himself among the four best players in Super Eagles history
Ahead of Nigeria's crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya, former Arsenal and Everton star Alex Iwobi revealed his personal picks for the greatest Super Eagles players of all time.
Iwobi’s top four Super Eagles legends
Iwobi sat down for an exclusive interview with PoojaDissects before Nigeria’s match against Libya in Uyo to share his thoughts on the best players to ever represent the Super Eagles.
When asked to name his top four, the Fulham star didn’t shy away from family ties and personal connections.
Iwobi named his uncle Austin "Jay-Jay" Okocha, as well as ex-Arsenal star, Nwankwo Kanu, Everton icon Joseph Yobo, and current Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, as his picks for Nigeria’s greatest footballers.
Super Eagles icons who inspired Iwobi
Okocha, Iwobi’s uncle and a beloved figure in Nigerian football, was known for his flair, creativity, and spectacular skill on the ball.
Kanu, another Nigerian football legend, won two African Player of the Year awards and had a remarkable club career that included stints at Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, and Portsmouth.
Former Everton star, Yobo, captained Nigeria and earned over 100 caps for the Super Eagles, retiring as the most-capped Super Eagles player of all time.
Osimhen, the only current player on the list, has quickly established himself as one of the top strikers in Europe, playing on loan at Galatasaray after a successful stint with Napoli and is third on Nigeria’s all-time top scorers’ list.
