Alex Iwobi has been working hard to keep Everton away from relegation as proven by stats

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has been one of the few shining lights in an otherwise grim season so far for Everton.

Iwobi leads his teammates in assists with five for the Toffees this season which is at least three more than anyone else in the squad.

But even on the less glamorous statistics such as distances covered per game, the Super Eagles star ranks highly as well, a testament to his hardworking nature on the pitch.

Iwobi covering ground

Iwobi features twice in a list of the top seven distances covered by Everton players in Premier League matches this season.

The Nigerian international covered 11.40 kilometres for Everton against Leeds United earlier in the season which is his personal best so far and the sixth-best of any Toffees player.

His other entry in the top seven is more recent as Iwobi covered 11.38 kilometres in Everton's shock 1-0 win against table-topping Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has only been bettered five times this season by his teammates in terms of distances covered during Premier League games.

Abdoulaye Doucoure leads the way with 12.10 km covered against Arsenal, Dwight McNeil with 12.05 km also against Arsenal, Amadou Onana with 11.77 km against Manchester City and 11.76 km against Arsenal and Idrissa Gueye with 11.47 km also against Arsenal.

The Sean Dyche effect

Newly-appointed Everton manager Sean Dyche already made an impact by leading the club to a 1-0 win at home to Arsenal on his managerial debut.

Everton win their first game under Sean Dyche

However, his impact on the team is beyond that solitary result as the aforementioned distance-covered stats reveal a lot about how he is changing the Toffees' mentality.

Dyche arrived at Goodison Park with a reputation for being a taskmaster who requires his team to work hard and is already living up to it.

Sean Dyche is already making Everton players work harder than before

Five of the top seven distances covered by Everton players this season as listed above came in the game against Arsenal, Dyche's first and only game in charge.

This shows that Iwobi and co are already running more under Sean Dyche than they ever did under previous manager Frank Lampard.
