The Blues stars made it clear that Chelsea do not need Victor Osimhen to function after a brilliant win away to Wolves

Chelsea’s stars were in full flow as they claimed a sensational win over Wolverhampton Wanderers for their first three points of the new season.

As reports emerge that the Blues have now pulled out of a deal for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, Chelsea’s current stars showed that they were good enough to lead the Blues forward with a dominant 6-2 win over Wolves.

Winger Noni Madueke scored a stunning hat-trick, the first of his Chelsea career, while Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson as well as Cole Palmer and new boy Joao Felix all pitched in with a goal each as the Blues silenced fans at the Molineux.

Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen managed to get on the scoresheet as well, but their goals ended up being a consolation on an otherwise dreary day for the home side.

How it happened

The match began frantically with Chelsea taking an early lead through Nicolas Jackson, who headed home unmarked from a Cole Palmer corner after only 98 seconds.

Wolves hit back immediately, coming close to an equaliser when Yerson Mosquera's header hit the post and coming even closer when they thought they had pulled level through Matheus Cunha, but his goal was disallowed for offside.

However, Cunha soon found the back of the net to make it 1-1, capitalising on a slip by Moises Caicedo to level the score.

As the first half drew to a close, Chelsea regained the lead with a moment of brilliance from Cole Palmer, who lobbed Wolves’ goalkeeper Jose Sa to make it 2-1, but Wolves struck back again in the dying seconds, with Strand Larsen scoring his debut goal to send the teams into halftime level at 2-2.

In the second half, Chelsea took control of the match, with Noni Madueke scoring just four minutes after the restart to put the Blues ahead once more. Madueke then scored two more goals to complete a stunning 17-minute hat-trick, with all three goals set up by Palmer, putting the game beyond Wolves' reach.

Joao Felix, on his second debut for Chelsea, added a sixth goal, sealing a comprehensive victory for the home side.
