We might see the drama unfolding between Ugandan shot-stopper Salim Jamal Magoola and the Uganda Cranes management ahead of the 2023 AFCON Qualifier against Tanzania.

The Richards Bay goal minder is part of the 30-man squad summoned to prepare for the doubleheader against Tanzania.

Jamal returns to the team for the first time since 2021, but before that, he had been absent, which was linked to the aftermath of the 2019 AFCON.

Then, a clique of players had quietly been frozen out of the Cranes because of demanding for their bonuses.

On Friday 10th, March, Salim Jamal shared a post in which he was wearing a Muslim tunic with the caption;

"Let the light of the Almighty Allah shine into our hearts, for He holds the future JUMMAH Mubarak," he posted on his official Twitter handle.

Former Cranes goalkeeper and captain Dennis Onyango then commented on Jamal's saying, "National team anthem clear," which meant he was ready to sing the anthem on national duty.

However, it was Jamal's chilled response that caused attention; "Nkyalinze apology," he wrote, insinuating that he is awaiting an apology from the football governing body.

The Cranes went on strike in Cairo before their 1-0 loss to Senegal in the round of 16; although part of the bonuses were cleared later, some players were secretly accused of inciting fellow players to strike even though it wasn't made public.

The Cranes are scheduled to start training on Wednesday, 15th March, with the foreign-based contingent set to join up with the rest of the squad in Cairo.

It remains to be seen if Jamal, who has managed 11 clean sheets in 22 games for his club, will honour the national team call-up.
