The Red Eagles only started preseason on Monday, all because of a lack of a training facility, with the club unable to secure Wankukukuku due to lack of funds but also because of the ongoing Bika bya Baganda tournament.

As some Uganda Premier League sides move to wrap up a second month of preseason, clubs like Express FC are only getting started.

The Red Eagles only started preseason on Monday, all because of a lack of a training facility, with the club unable to secure Wankukukuku due to lack of funds but also because of the ongoing Bika bya Baganda tournament.

Head coach James Odoch says it's been tough, but he is happy that the team is finally back training ahead of the new season.

"Our preseason start has been affected by lack of a training pitch, it's been tough, but we are currently training at the NEC grounds, and most of the players are here," Odoch told Pulse Sports.

"We have three weeks to be ready, and we can achieve it; the players are in good spirits, we just have to rope in a few more additions, and we shall be good.

The seven-time league champions have so far signed striker Seif Batte from SC Villa and Alpha Ssali from Proline FC.

Odoch asserts that the emphasis on the recruitment has been the strikers because the team has to score goals.

"I believe they will make a difference because we need the goals.”

"We started well last season but crumbled towards the end; this coming season we're targeting a fourth-place finish,” Odoch added.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League is scheduled to get underway on 14th September 2023.
