ATHLETICS Jess Okal Crowned Africa Super Sprint Champion at the just concluded Africa Triathlon Cup

Okal, the grandson of legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino, won the men's race super sprint event in 41 minutes and twenty-three seconds.

Jesse Okal crowned Super Sprint Champion in the Africa Triathlon Championship as Mohammed Bagha won bronze in the junior Triathlon Category event at the just concluded two-day event held at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt last weekend.

Okal, the grandson of legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino, won the men's race super sprint event in 41 minutes and twenty-three seconds.

In other event, Josett Kiarie finished fourth in women’s elite aquathlon category while Dubai-based Aisha Naseer and Meghan Irungu finished 14th and 15th respectively in the triathlon elite women category.

Kaiza Iman and Nadia Ndibo finished in 5th and 7th respectively in the Junior women’s triathlon category.

The Sharm El Sheikh event presented one of the first instalments of the 2024 World circuit and road to the Paris Olympic Games later in the year.

Jocelyne Nyambura, The President of the Kenya Triathlon Federation was upbeat from the results posted by her team;

"We thank the Ministry of Sports and the Government for sponsoring the athletes to the qualifier event and the athletes produced one of the best performances in Kenya's history. We look forward to other upcoming events and promise to lift Kenya's flag higher," she stated upon arrival.

The Kenyan squad now set their sights on the African Games in Ghana and Africa Triathlon Cup in South Africa in April.
