St. Lawrence were up 4-1 at the break but were forced to the edge when Nicholas Mwere stole the show to score eight goals to earn the Lions a point.
Jinja Lions made their intentions clear when they came from down to match St. Lawerence in an exhilarating 16-goal stalemate in the FUFA Beach Soccer League on Sunday.
The defending champions were up 4-1 at the break but were forced to the edge when Nicholas Mwere stole the show to score eight goals to earn the Lions a point.
Their coach Ivan Kulika is impressed with the performance despite failing to pick up maximum points and believes the team is on course for the playoffs later in the year.
“The draw keeps our second position,” Kulika says.
The point takes St. Lawrence’s tally to 22 points, three more than the Jinja side after eight games.
“We had a bad start but gained to fight back for a win though we settled a point. We aim to pick enough points to keep us in the playoff spots at the end of the regular season,” he adds.
Brian Nkuubi netted a hattrick, Ronald Magwali and Baker Lukoya scored a brace each for the university side.
The Lions have some space to roar as third-placed Mutoola succumbed to a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Kiringete, losing their second game in the season so far.
