BEACH SOCCER Jinja Lions, St. Lawrence seek Grace in top-table chase

If Jinja Lions want to measure their strength in this year’s Uganda Beach Soccer League, then they must come out on top against table-leaders St. Lawrence.

The team struggled to a 6-5 loss to lowly-ranked Wolves last time out, with their assistant coach Ivan Kulika blaming the absence of his key players who were fighting for Busoga United’s life in the Uganda premier league.

The loss left them in third with 22 points but trailing Leaders St. Lawrence and Mutoola by six and five points respectively. The top four qualify for the playoffs.

However, the quartet of Herbert Onyango, Fredrick Ngalo, Nicholas Tamale and Nicholas Mwere are returning and should prove their worth.

Golden boot

Kulika may just have the relief he needs as Mwere, topping the table with 24 goals, returns in time to face the same team he single-handedly matched with seven goals in the 7-all draw in the first round.

Mwere is battling for the golden boot against MS Sand Lions’ Simon Kizito (19) and St. Lawrence’s striker Baker Lukoya (17).

Lukoya and his teammate Rica Byaruhanga and Jinja Lions chairman Andrew Tarenga are returning from a three-match ban after the trio got involved in a catfight in their first round.

The two teams will then face Grace Church in the afternoon scheduled respectively.
