Joe Biden: Cristiano Ronaldo told to take career lessons from America's president and step down

Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo told to borrow a leaf from Joe Biden's book.

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has withdrawn his reelection bid due to his advanced age and health issues and this has prompted an advise to Cristiano Ronaldo to do the same following his underwhelming Euro 2024 outing.

Ronaldo’s struggles at the Euros

Portugal were one of the favourites to lift the title going into the tournament, and they were led by their 39-year-old captain, who finished the Saudi Pro League as the top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the ex-Real Madrid midfielder could not replicate his Al-Nassr form at the tournament. He failed to score a single goal despite ranking high on shot attempts.

Following Selecao’s exit at the hands of France, Ronaldo's level of involvement in the competition came into question. He was criticised for imposing himself on the team, as, despite his advanced age, he took charge of nearly all key ball actions.

His detractors believe he should have been phased out, or at least given limited involvement in the competition. Despite the criticism, Ronaldo continues to be available for national team selection, as he failed to announce his retirement, as anticipated by many.

'Learn from Biden'

Following Biden's withdrawal as the Democratic National Congress’s candidate for the US presidential election, journalist Zach Lowy advised Ronaldo to learn from the elder statesman.

“Glad to see Joe Biden finally admitting that his body and mind have been devastated by Father Time and that he can’t risk sacrificing the future of the nation any longer,” he said. “A certain Portuguese forward on Al-Nassr should take note.

Ronaldo is currently on holiday with his family, and he regularly shares updates with his large social media following. His team, Al-Nassr, have begun pre-season training and have struggled so far without him. Next season, Ronaldo will continue his hunt for his first major trophy as a Faris Najd.
